This was revealed from the monitoring of the reflective
panels installed by NASA in 1969 during the Apollo mission. This tool shows
that the Moon is moving away from Earth by 3.8 centimeters each year.

University of Quebec, Montreal, and co-researcher Marguerite Lantinck of the
University of Wisconsin-Madison, along with colleagues from the Universities of
Utrecht and Geneva, said this new discovery may be exciting, but it is also bad
news for past guides.
Because if the four and a half billion year old moon drifted
at this speed throughout its existence, then the moon collided with Earth about
1.5 billion years ago. But our arena is still here, so that is clearly not the
case.
So that experts believe there are other factors that cause deviations associated with the Milankovitch cycle. This cycle describes how subtle changes in the shape of Earth's orbit and axis affect the amount of sunlight we receive.
Effect of the moon moving away from the earth
One of them is the effect of tides and climate change. If
the Moon is away from Earth, the force that attracts sea water will decrease,
so the tides will be much less.
Where sea water may still move, the movement will be weak and minimal. While its influence on climate is related to the tilt of the Earth's axis.
Currently, the Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees on its axis because the Moon helps lock the Earth in at this angle.
If the Moon moves away, the risk is that the Earth loses its
stability and may change its axis. The impact is that it will change the
seasons on Earth and the living conditions experienced by Earth's inhabitants.
