Alien abduction - the case of mysterious alien abductions
Alien abduction - the case of mysterious alien abductions
On the night of September 19, 1961, Barney and Betty Hill were driving their car from Quebec to Portsmouth. The roads were quite empty and there were only a few other cars there. When they arrived in Groveton, New Hampshire, they suddenly saw a bright light hovering in the sky. Then, they both became unconscious.
The abduction of Barney and Betty Hill
A few days later, Betty experienced a series of nightmares
that later triggered memories of the events that took place on the night of
September 19, 1961.
After consulting with a psychiatrist, they both agreed to undergo hypnosis sessions to trigger other buried memories about the event. From the hypnosis sessions, terrifying details of the mysterious incident were revealed.
Possibility of Alien Abduction in the Past
The story of the Hill couple then caught widespread
attention, so national media began reporting it. Then, a film about their
experience was also made. In the 1990s, the phenomenon of alien abduction
became increasingly popular when the TV series The X-Files featured and made it
an important part of its plot.
The Barney and Betty Hill incident marked the alien abduction euphoria in America, which led some more logical researchers to try to investigate this phenomenon more deeply.
Although the Barney and Betty Hill abduction is the most famous, some writers believe that this phenomenon actually occurred in the years before.
UFO researcher named Jerome Clark dubbed the alien abduction incidents before Hill as Paleo Abductions.
One example of such a case is recorded in the Daily Mail in
1897, where a colonel named H.G. Shaw claimed that he and a friend were
attacked by three tall, hairy humanoid creatures. The creatures attempted to
abduct Shaw and his friend, but were unsuccessful as the colonel fought back.
In 1954, an anonymous individual wrote in the Paris Match about an incident that happened to them in 1921 when they were a child. They claimed that two tall men in diving suits abducted them and brought them to a strange tank before releasing them.
Later, a Brazilian farmer named Antonio Villas Boas also claimed to have been abducted by aliens in 1957.
Eventually, the cases of Boas and Hill would become the two most famous and talked about alien abduction cases.
What happened to those who were abducted?
After undergoing hypnosis sessions, the Hill couple were
able to recall some details that were later considered typical characteristics
of alien abductions.
According to them, the aliens who abducted them were about 1.5 meters tall and wore the same uniform. What was extraordinarily strange was their large head. The Hill couple's description of the aliens then popularized the term "Grey", a type of alien that resembles the alien in the movie ET.

Inside the aircraft, the aliens began examining the entire body of the Hill couple, cutting some of Betty's hair and peeling a bit of Barney's skin to be stored in a glass. The alien then removed Betty's clothes, and said that they were going to check her nervous system. After that, they inserted a needle into Betty's navel, causing her extreme pain. In addition to performing medical procedures on Betty, they also took a sample of Barney's sperm.
After everything was finished, Betty had a brief conversation with the aliens about some things such as their origins and human life on Earth. Then the Hill couple was told that the examination was over and they could return to their car.
Antonio Villas Boas' experience was similar to that of the Hill couple. The aliens he described were also about 1.5 meters tall and took a sample of his blood, and took him on a tour of their ship.
When Boas returned home, he found that four hours had passed.
Abductees (the term for alien abduction victims) besides Boas and Hill also reported similar experiences. On average, they mention encountering a bright object, then meeting with strange creatures similar to the Grey, guided to a mysterious aircraft, undergoing a series of medical procedures, sometimes accompanied by the implantation of small objects in their bodies.
After that, they usually converse with their abductors, are taken on a tour of the ship, and are brought back to the abduction location, although sometimes it can be at a different location.
In some cases, abductees also find strange unexplained
scars. Some believe that these are scars from surgery or from the implantation
of objects done by the aliens.
According to David Icke, a UFO researcher, alien abduction
is a kidnapping event carried out by aliens who work with the American
military. In other words, an interplanetary conspiracy. The goal is to conduct
genetic experiments and create alien hybrids or children of mixed alien and
human heritage.
Others do not believe in aliens. According to this group,
this phenomenon is actually the work of the United States government that
cannot conduct medical experiments on humans freely due to legal issues. So,
they create alien abduction activities to divert public attention from the
government.
Although there is no evidence, both views have enough
followers in society.
But how do more rational researchers respond to this
phenomenon? Can this experience prove that aliens are real and exist among us?
Investigating the Alien Abduction Phenomenon
One of the well-known scientists who later became interested
in this phenomenon is Dr. John Edward Mack, a psychiatrist from Harvard
University. Dr. Mack is not a ufologist. He is a highly reputable psychiatrist
who has written more than 150 scientific articles and won a Pulitzer Prize for
one of his books.
Dr. Mack conducted therapy sessions and interviews with
about 800 people who claimed to have been abducted by aliens. From his investigation,
Dr. Mack concluded that he did not find any psychological abnormalities in his
patients. He became so interested in this subject that he wrote two books about
it and organized a debate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
for five days to discuss this phenomenon.
Dr. Mack then became one of the reputable psychiatrists who
believed in the truth of this phenomenon. However, other researchers remain
skeptical.
Alternative Views in the Case of Alien Abduction
One reason for their skepticism is the use of hypnosis in
triggering lost memories about the abduction event (Missing Time).
False Memory
In the case of Barney and Betty Hill, their memories of the
abduction event emerged after Betty experienced a series of dreams and hypnosis
sessions. According to skeptics, the Hill couple may have experienced False
Memory.
Those who experience False Memory usually remember an
experience incorrectly but believe it to be true. False memory can indeed be
experienced by those undergoing hypnosis therapy to trigger memories like the
one undergone by the Hill couple.
One argument of the False Memory theory, for example, is
Barney's hypnosis-triggered memory of the alien's shape he saw. According to
Barney, the alien he encountered had strange eyes with circular eyelids. This
eye feature can actually be found in the aliens in the movie 'The Outer Limits'
that was aired only 12 days before Barney underwent hypnosis.
So, there is a possibility that the memories that emerged in the minds of the Hill couple are a jumbled mix of thoughts that then formed a False Memory.
In addition to information received from the environment (or
TV shows), False Memory can also be produced from the suggestive influence of
the hypnotist (you may have seen this method performed on TV). There is a
possibility that the psychiatrist who hypnotized the Hill couple
unintentionally guided them in the formation of a False Memory about aliens
abduction.
Indeed, this theory is quite plausible considering the many
memories of aliens abduction that arise due to hypnotic influence. You can see
an example of this method being performed in the movie 'The Fourth Kind.'
Hallucinations, schizophrenia, and other psychological
disorders
Some other psychologists believe that the case of aliens
abduction is actually just a psychological disorder such as schizophrenia that
can arise due to childhood trauma or drug influences. Disorders like this are
usually accompanied by hallucinations or other physical sensations.
An example is the research results of a psychiatrist named
Rick Strassman. In 1988, he injected high doses of Dimethyltryptamine (DMT)
into a number of volunteers. As a result, 20 percent of the volunteers
experienced experiences similar to those of abductees.
In addition to psychological disorders, the phenomenon of
sleep paralysis is also believed to be responsible for the experiences of
abductees. When they experience sleep paralysis or being held down, some of
them will immediately associate it with aliens abduction.
In addition to the False Memory theory, the psychological
disorder theory is considered the most able to explain the phenomenon of aliens
abduction. But, can these two theories perfectly explain this phenomenon?
The answer is no.
However, ufologists and abductees themselves also face difficulties in defending their theories. This is because abductees do not have strong physical evidence that can be used as the basis for their arguments.
But what about the implants and scars on their bodies?
Although many claims exist regarding the presence of
implants in the bodies of abductees, surprisingly, researchers have never found
implants that are truly extraterrestrial. One UFO researcher named Whitley
Strieber also acknowledged this issue. Initially, he believed that he had been
abducted by aliens who implanted something in his ear. But when Strieber
underwent removal surgery, the implant turned out to be just a piece of
collagen formed from cartilage, and definitely not something extraterrestrial.
According to Strieber: "Skeptics always try to prove
that the evidence gathered is actually meaningless, while those who believe in
UFOs always assume that the evidence is conclusive. Both approaches are a waste
of time because we have never actually found conclusive evidence."
The same goes for scars on abductee bodies. In many cases,
when examined by doctors, scars claimed to be surgical scars caused by aliens
turn out to be just ordinary scars caused by fungus or other phenomena. Once
again, we have not found conclusive evidence.
Satanic Activities
There is an interesting statement about alien abduction
given by Carl Sagan, an astronomer. In his book titled The Demon-Haunted World,
he mentioned that descriptions of alien abduction experiences actually have
similarities to stories of abduction by demons or Satan from all over the
world.
He wrote:
"There are no spaceships in these stories. But the
central elements are the same, including celestial beings with sexual desires,
walking through walls, communicating telepathically, and conducting
reproductive experiments on humans."
Carl Sagan's statement is quite interesting. If in the
Western world, mysterious creatures with characteristics like 'Grey' are
referred to as aliens, then in the East, creatures with similar characteristics
are often associated with demons or spirits.
So, with reference to these two perspectives, can we say
that aliens and demons are actually the same entities?
If yes, the question is, who has correctly identified the
identity of these creatures? The Western world or the Eastern world?
Or are they different entities altogether, and do alien
abductions prove their existence?
Hope you enjoy with this article, please leave your comment about what creatures or things we will discuss later, Thanks
